- Leon D. Larson, 82, died March 14. He retired in 1986 from Elmer Larson, Inc., a northern Illinois sand, gravel and crushed stone producer. He was a charter member of the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers and the National Stone Association.
- William “Bill” D. Toal, former chief economist for the Portland Cement Association, died on March 16. He was 60 years old.
- Martin Marietta Materials' Tony Stephenson was named Driller of the Year by the Ohio Aggregates & Industrial Minerals Association.
- Lonnie Dunn, of Anna Quarries Inc., was named 2002 Illinois Blaster of the Year by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
- Stanley Lippincott won the International Society of Explosives Engineers' Distinguished Service Award.
- James Russ, president of Aggregate Industries mid-Atlantic region, was elected chairman of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association.
- Patrick Dolberg became president and CEO of Holcim (U.S.), replacing Paul Yhouse. Yhouse resigned suddenly, but was asked to remain with Holcim in an advisory capacity. Several other executives also resigned, among them were Senior Vice President of Manufacturing Gary Sauer; Senior Vice President, Treasurer, and CFO Ken Jensen; and Senior Vice President of Sustainable Development David Feldman. No official reason was given for any of the departures. Holcim named Bill Townsend deputy CEO and senior vice president of sustainable development; Badreddine Filali Babe senior vice president of manufacturing; Thomas Aebischer senior vice president, treasurer and CFO.
- SKF named Donald A. Poland, Jr. president of the SKF service division, North America.
- Buffalo Wire Works Co. named Michael J. Burns CFO.
- Jack Keith was appointed Arnco's technical representative in Southwest U.S.
- Tom Minzak is the Hoss Equipment Co. senior sales representative and equipment appraiser.
- Terex Chairman and CEO Ronald DeFoe was elected chairman of the Associated Equipment Manufacturers.
- T. Don Del Bosco has joined Weir International Mining Consultants as senior engineering manager.
