NEW PRODUCTS Jul 1, 2003 12:00 PM Front Shovel Caterpillar's 5090B front shovel replaces the 5080 hydraulic excavator. The design is compatible with 40- to 70-ton excavators. The 5090B is powered by a Cat 3456 — a 964-cu-in. air-to-air aftercooled diesel engine. The engine produces 513 hp, a 20% increase over the 5080. The engine features an electronic unit injection and 133,030-lb maximum drawbar pull. The swing torque is 191,770 lb ft, bucket breakout force (SAE) is 105,210 lb, and stick breakout force (SAE) is 99,590 lb. Micro AC Drive Saftronics' S10 Micro AC drive is designed for fans, blowers, conveyors and mixers. The system uses a software platform to customize drive performance. It also is equipped with NEMA 4X enclosure for hostile environments. A full set of motor and drive diagnostics, programmable I/O, DC injection braking, three-event fault log and 6 v/Hz curves are available. A standard 115 VAC, 50/60 Hz input for applications are available for installation. The one and three units require 230 or 460 VAC or three-phase power options, which are stocked for delivery. Available in both air- and motor-operated systems, the units have banks from two to 36 connected pumps. Each of the unit's injector pumps can deliver an output range up to 0.0120 cu in., the company says. Standard accessories include air regulators, air pressure gauges, liquid filters, liquid level gauges, spray nozzles and applicator brushes. Pump bodies are aluminum with anodized blue finish. The system is attached to a galvanized steel mounting plate that fits inside commercially available enclosures. Quick-filling reservoirs are made from polycarbonate or fiberglass to allow visual inspection. Pumps can operate in temperatures ranging from -32°F to 120°F. The gray heat-resistant enclosure opens from the bottom to access electronic components. An auto-learn mode automatically identifies the communication format and data rate used by an indicator. Cartridges in double and triple pumps allow low flow at high pressure. The new units — T7B, T7BS, T7D, T7E and T7ES — feature a fast pressure cycle change with precise flow repeatability. The company says high-volumetric efficiency reduces heat generation by 94%. Speeds range from 600 rpm to 3,600 rpm. The hysteris motor of the indicator allows it to run during a stalled state, and a safety clutch protects motor gearing. Two internal single-pole, double-throw switches control alarms and shuts off belts and feeders if paddle motion becomes restricted. The company says harsh environments are managed through non-contact, double-shielded bearings and a shaft lip seal rated to 140 psi. The company says its plugs increase rock fragmentation, improve cap-rock breakage, and reduce rock fly. The plugs are designed for positive insertion. This adds to the structural strength and prevents the detonating cord from being crushed or pulled into the drill hole during plug insertion, the company says. The line includes compact wheel loaders, compact excavators and backhoe loaders. Skid steers have one-piece mainframes, endless drive chains and two double-acting bucket cylinders. The MC70, MC90 and MC110 can be equipped with high-flow hydraulics to power planers, augers and trenchers. Maximum discharge height is 12 ft 2 in. It can handle recycled materials, aggregates, contaminated construction debris and concrete. The Streettrack, powered by a Caterpillar diesel engine, can be maneuvered with an optional remote control box. Crushtek says the rubber-track pads are asphalt friendly. Other options include a permanent magnet for sorting rebar, dust-control system and belt or sensor scale. Five sizes of impact crushers are available with capacities ranging from 130 to 500 tph.
