CalPortland Constructing Industry’s First Burrowing Owl Habitat

CalPortland said it is now “perched” as the rock products’ industry’s first company to safely construct a burrowing owl habitat within one of its mining sites. The habitat is designed to support the burrowing owls – a Species of Concern in several states including Arizona – in a safe, comfortable, environmentally efficient manner.

The WIIN Act Is In; Will WOTUS Be Out?

The Water Infrastructure Improvements Act for the Nation (WIIN Act), formerly known as the Water Resources Development Act or WRDA, cleared the U.S. Senate by a vote of 78 to 21 after passing the U.S. House of Representatives. The bipartisan bill now heads to President Obama’s desk for his signature.

Aggregate Industries Products Central to Sustainable Construction Project

Aggregate Industries US made a huge contribution to the new MGM National Harbor in Maryland. Located on the eastern shore of the Potomac River, just south of Washington, D.C., the 1 million-sq.-ft. facility – which will feature gaming, lodging, entertaining, dining, retail and parking space – is a showcase for sustainability. Every element throughout the 24-story mixed-use development was designed with sustainability in mind, including extensive use of natural light, LED lighting and water-saving features, such as the 750,000-gal. cistern that will collect rainwater.

Habitat Conservation Organization Recognizes Cemex

Cemex received five awards from the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC), including the prestigious 2016 Gold Tier Program of the Year award for its conservation efforts at the El Carmen ecological reserve, a critical area for wildlife at the scenic Texas-Mexico border.
