Wear Parts For Mining And Processing
- Published: Monday, 01 March 2010 07:00
The aggregates mining industry is a hard business. Each day the equipment takes endless hours of pounding from rock, steel and concrete. No matter how tough a machine is, eventually it will wear under the constant abuse. That's when these companies come into play, helping companies revitalize machines with components that love the abuse.
COMPONENTS THAT TAKE THE BRUNT OF IT
SSAB's WearCalc 2.0 software calculates the relative service life of abrasion-resistant spare parts. The model covers two types of impact damage: severe damage involving crater formation and extruded lips during impact, and milder damage resulting in plastic deformation of the surface. At the macro level, WearCalc 2.0 predicts whether makeup of the abrasive materials will cause edges to penetrate the steel surface or to break. At the micro level, the model uses mineral hardness to calculate erosion on different types of wear plates. The algorithm takes size, shape, impingement angle and velocity of the material into account. WearCalc 2.0 creates a report file which can be e-mailed or saved. A report generator creates a report with the input parameters and result table. The report can be edited in Microsoft Word.
Columbia Steel's Xtralloy is higher in carbon and manganese than conventional Hadfield's manganese steel, and is suitable for crusher applications in hard and abraisive materials. The company says the alloy improves wear-life ratios of opposing wear parts.
Wellsville Foundry offers wear parts for high-impact jaw and impact crushing, grinding, pulverizing, and hammering applications. Crusher plates are cast from austempered ductile iron, carbidic austempered ductile iron, high manganese steel, or special alloys. Wellsville crusher plates can be supplied with carbide inserts and manganese dies. The company says the plates have extremely low porosity.
Wellsville Foundry also offers ground-engaging tools for excavators, loaders, bull dozers and asphalt pavers. These include bucket teeth, fasteners, wear bars and excavator buckets.
