Steve W. Sloan, president and CEO of Midwest Minerals Inc., Pittsburg, Kan., has been elected 2008 Chairman of the Board of the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA). Sloan began his term March 12.
ìSteve Sloan has been an active member of NSSGA since 2003, serving on our Safety and Health Committee, Board of Directors and, most recently, as vice chairman of our association,î says NSSGA president and CEO Joy Wilson. ìHe has chaired the Kansas Aggregate Producers Association and is a dedicated leader in his state and community.î U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) says of Sloan's election, ìI've always been impressed with Steve's commitment to enhancing the state's highway system.î
ìIt is a great honor to accept this position,î Sloan says. ìAs I take the helm of NSSGA, I am prepared for the hard work ahead and for the commitment it will require, especially in this year preceding a federal transportation bill and our first-ever AGG 1 Aggregates Forum and Expo.î Sloan says he will stress the vital importance of safety during his term. ìLast year, our industry earned the best safety record ever for the aggregates industry, and while that's encouraging, we will continue our improvement,î he notes. ìWe must send our employees home each and every day to their families in good health.î
