Vulcan Materials Co., Western Div., has been recognized for voluntarily implementing an environmental management system at its Irwindale, Calif. facility, which ensures conformance to international standard, ISO 14001. Vulcan received certification following a series of audits conducted by NSF-International Strategic Registration. The facility, which produces both hot-mix asphalt and aggregate, reportedly is the first of its kind in California to achieve ISO-14001 certification.
ìHaving the first combined asphalt and aggregates facility in California to be certified as ISO-14001-compliant provides independent confirmation of Vulcan's commitment to the environment and demonstrates how we integrate sustainability into our operations,î says Alan Wessel, president of Vulcan's Western Div. ìWe commend Vulcan for this accomplishment,î adds Christian Lupo, general manager for NSF-International. ìISO 14001 is a comprehensive management system designed to ensure that companies meet their environmental obligations.î To commemorate this achievement, Vulcan will recognize the employees and community at a June event at the Irwindale facility.
