NSSGA Announces Award Winners

The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) announced the Gold, Silver and Bronze winners of NSSGA's Safety, Environmental and Community Relations Excellence Awards. The awards program recognizes aggregates operations throughout the United States and Canada for their extraordinary commitment to safety, for their superior performance as environmental stewards and for their community involvement and support activities that have enhanced the image of the aggregates industry during 2009-2010.

Oldcastle sells Ivy Steel and Wire

Oldcastle Inc. has sold substantially all of the assets of its Ivy (Ivy) Steel and Wire business for a total consideration of $51 million to Insteel (Insteel) Industries, Inc., one of the largest manufacturers of steel wire reinforcing products for concrete construction applications.

Graniterock Hosts Algebra Academy

Graniterock hosted more than 50 middle school students for an innovative, week-long Algebra Academy at its corporate office in Watsonville, Calif. As part of its continuing community outreach program, Graniterock has, for several years, partnered with Rolling Hills Middle School to provide support, tutoring and mentoring in a number of different academic areas including; math, science, English, and art.

Nugent Sand to Expand

Nugent Sand Co. was granted approval by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, to expand its operation in Utica, Ky.  Approval was granted for expansion on a permit issued in 2000, which will allow for additional barge fleeting, cleaning and minor repairs to be conducted at the company’s site in an embayment along the Ohio River between Marine Builders and Eagle Steel.

Tri-Valley Sells Quarry in Alaska

California-based Tri-Valley Corp. said that it agreed to sell its Admiral Calder calcium carbonate quarry on Prince of Wales Island in Alaska to Columbia River Carbonates for a total purchase price of $2.5 million in an all-cash transaction.
