Martin Marietta Makes Play for Vulcan

The aggregates industry’s number-two stone producer, Martin Marietta Materials Inc., has delivered a proposal to Vulcan Materials Co., the industry’s number-one producer, and commenced “an exchange offer to effect a business combination with Vulcan” that would create a U.S.-based company that is the global leader in construction aggregates with a footprint reaching across North America.

Group Urges Obama To Support Six-Year Bill

Representatives Aaron Schock (R-Ill.), Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.), John Carney (D-Del.) and Patrick Meehan (R-Pa.) sent a letter to President Obama urging him to support a fully paid-for, six-year transportation reauthorization. More than 111 members signed it, including 62 Democrats and 49 Republicans.

Dust Bill Bites the Dust

The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) commends the U.S. House of Representatives for passing H.R.1633, the Farm Dust Regulation Prevention Act, a bill to protect producers of resource-based products, including aggregates, as well as farmers and ranchers, from increased regulation of a naturally occurring substance.
