New-Home Sales Decline 2.3 Percent in August

Sales of newly built, single-family homes declined 2.3 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 295,000 units in August, according to newly released data from the U.S. Commerce Department. The decline is from an upwardly revised, 302,000-unit rate in the previous month.

Hybrid Construction Vehicles Emissions to be Analyzed

Scientists at the University of California, Riverside’s Center for Environmental Research and Technology have received a $2 million contract for a first-of-its-kind study of hybrid construction vehicles.

Granite Construction Commissions Solar System at Coalinga, Calif., Plant

Granite Construction Inc. commissioned a new 1.2-megawatt solar system at it’s aggregate and hot mix facility in Coalinga, Calif. The photovoltaic array – which includes eIQ Energy’s vBoost DC Parallel System – is believed to be the largest completed solar electric generating system to use distributed power electronics.

MDU Resources Group Assesses Third Quarter

MDU Resources Group announced preliminary unaudited financial results for the third quarter of 2011. The company expects to report third quarter earnings in the range of 33 cents to 35 cents per share, near the midpoint of the guidance provided in August.

Doosan Holds Media Event, Introduces DA40

Doosan held a media event Oct. 10-12, in Tucson, Ariz., that included hands-on operation of heavy equipment, and the introduction of its new DA40 Articulated Dump Truck. Rock Products’ Assistant Editor Josephine Smith attended the event.
