Permit Decision Expected

According to the Times-Leader, following what was the eighth in a series of public hearings on the proposed expansion of the Pennsy Supply Corp. quarry on Small Mountain Road, the Torrance Township, Pa., supervisors said they will announce a decision on the company’s application for a conditional use permit on Jan. 3.

Lafarge Seeks Permit

LaFarge North America is seeking permits to expand its quarry operation near Buffalo. According to a notice from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District, LaFarge is planning to expand its quarry operation to a 71.7-acre area of the company’s property just north of its existing 350-acre quarry.

Missouri Quarry Denied Pemit

The Eastern District of the Missouri Court of Appeals has denied a motion by Strack Excavating LLC of Cape Girardeau to operate a quarry near a Jackson, Mo., high school and has set a briefing schedule for the parties involved in the appeals process.

Cavaliere Industries Faces Opposition

A Darien, Conn., Planning and Zoning Commission meeting was disrupted by a local resident who took the floor to protest a “potentially loud stone-crushing operation” that would take place at a transfer station, according to the Darien News.
