A quarry operator is hearing from the public as it seeks permission to withdraw 12 million gallons of water a day from a coastal collection of underground fresh water, according to WCTI TV. The state Division of Water Resources held a public hearing on a water withdrawal permit Martin Marietta Materials needs to remove water from its quarry in Craven County, N.C.

Graves Trucking Inc. submitted an application seeking certain permissions to open and operate a sand and gravel pit on a 31.2-acre site abutting property in Walpole, N.H. – already home to a sand and gravel pit, according to the Sentinel Source. George Graves owns the existing sand and gravel pit. His son, Timothy, owns Graves Trucking Inc., and is proposing the new pit.
