The Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance and the Virginia Department of Mines handed out awards to that state's top-performing mines for safety, reclamation and community relations.

Safety awards went to:

• Boxley Lawyers Road Quarry (Lynchburg)
• Branscome Lee/Bickford Pit (James City)
• Luck Stone (Fairfax Plant)
• Mid-Atlantic Materialsí (King George Quarry)
• Branscome Hofmeyer Pit (Charles City)

Reclamation winners included:

• Best Overall/Best Quarry: Luck Stone Powhatan Plant
• Honorable Mention: Chemical Lime Kimballton Plant #2 (Giles County)
• Honorable Mention: Unimin Gore Mine (Winchester)
• Vulcan Materialsí Curles Neck Sand & Gravel (Varina, Henrico County)

Community relations awards were given to:

• Boxley Piney River Quarry (Lynchburg)
• Vulcan Materialsí Stafford Quarry (Garrisonville)
