CalPortland Constructing Industry’s First Burrowing Owl Habitat

CalPortland said it is now “perched” as the rock products’ industry’s first company to safely construct a burrowing owl habitat within one of its mining sites. The habitat is designed to support the burrowing owls – a Species of Concern in several states including Arizona – in a safe, comfortable, environmentally efficient manner.

Cemex Completes Water Recycling System at Balcones Quarry in Texas

Cemex announced the completion of a new water recycling system at its Balcones quarry near New Braunfels, Texas. The new state-of-the-art system reflects commitment to sustainability by reducing reliance on local water sources and decreasing operational costs at the quarry.

NSSGA Warns EPA on Risk Assessment Process

The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) submitted preliminary comments to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) concerning a forthcoming process that the agency will use to conduct chemical risk assessments. This process will determine if and how EPA will attempt to further regulate common rock dust.
