U.S. Silica to Open Sand Storage Facility

U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. announced an agreement with S.H. Bell Co. to open a new silica sand storage facility to support growing demand from oil and gas customers in the Utica and Marcellus Shale areas. U.S. Silica will ship barges and railcars of premium Northern White frac sand to the new transload facility in East Liverpool, Ohio, from its network of sand plants.

Wisconsin Frac Sand Plant Denied Permit

A Wisconsin frac sand company says it's deeply disappointed with a vote in Buffalo County against its plans to open a new facility there. The county's board of adjustment denied permits for the Glacier Sands’ proposed plant in the Town of Montana. The board said it intends to wait for the results of several studies on the environmental impact of mining in the area.

Minnesota Frac Sand Plant Proposal Stirs Up Controversy

A possible $70 million frac sand plant and rail depot is stirring up controversy in St. Charles, Minn. According to local news sources, a 300-acre soy bean field outside of St. Charles could soon be the site of one of the largest frac sand processing plants in the country.

New Sand Association Formed

The Wisconsin Industrial Sand Association (WISA) is a statewide organization formed to promote safe and environmentally sound sand mining standards, promote a fact-based discussion and create a positive dialogue among the industry, citizens and government officials.
