- Frac Resources, a Houston-based frac sand logistics and distribution company, has partnered with La Porte, Texas-based Frontier Logistics LP to construct a new rail park on 550 acres of land in the Permian Basin. The newly planned $10 million rail park is located about 30 miles east of Midland, Texas – an area where the company said there is a need for more rail service.
- Steptoe & Johnson PLLC will hold its 2013 Energy Leadership Summit on July 15-16 at the Hilton Columbus at Easton in Columbus, Ohio. This two-day event will give energy decision makers an in-depth look at recent oil and gas developments as well as legal issues in shale exploration and production. The firm will also reveal the results of their nationwide study – Beneath the Surface: The Legal Challenges of Shale Gas Production – on legal challenges in shale gas and oil production.
- According to Minnesota Public Radio, a group of Winona County, Minn., residents is challenging the county board’s decision to approve a frac sand mine. The Nisbit mine is located in Saratoga Township, and local residents are concerned about truck traffic and the mine’s impact on air and water quality. Winona County approved the Nisbit mine last month. It’s the first and only mine to receive a permit since the county’s moratorium on silica sand mining expired last year.
