Frac Sand Show a Success

On June 5-7, Rock Products and the Frac Sand Insider hosted the inaugural Frac Sand Insider 2013 Conference and Exhibition at The Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh. More than 200 manufacturers, producers, consultants and others with an interest in the fast-evolving frac sand market attended the event.

Canadian Company Accelerating $33-million Railroad Upgrade

Canadian National (CN) announced it is accelerating work on the $33-million upgrading of its Whitehall Subdivision in Wisconsin to increase car-loading capacity and train velocity for the growing frac sand supply chains of Badger Mining Corporation, Preferred Sands of Wisconsin LLC, Atlas Resin Proppants LLC, and Taylor Frac LLC.

Town Passes Nonmetallic Mining Law

After a nine-month moratorium on frac sand mining, the Clifton, Wis., Town Board adopted a nonmetallic mining licensing law at its June 4 meeting, according to the Pierce County Herald. Nolan Wall of Stevens Engineers in Hudson explained during a public hearing that demand for frac sand and its availability in this region has forced towns to be proactive instead of reactive.

Activist Group Stops New Frac Sand Mine

Trempealeau County, Minn.-area residents who oppose frac sand mining claimed a small victory when after a long public hearing on a proposed frac sand mine outside Blair, Wisc., company representatives voluntarily withdrew the permit because of heavy opposition.
