Hi-Crush Completes Acquisition

Hi-Crush Partners LP announced the successful completion of its previously announced acquisition of certain equity interests in Hi-Crush Augusta LLC, the entity that owns a raw frac sand processing facility located in Augusta, Wis., for cash consideration of $224.25 million.

Wisconsin Police Powers Bill Stalls

According to the Wisconsin Industrial Sand Association (WISA), the Wisconsin State Legislature adjourned its 2013-2015 session without acting on SB 632/AB 816. The bill ¬– significantly revised from its predecessor SB 349 – would have prevented use of municipal police powers to change the rules for existing, locally permitted non-metallic mining operations and properties, while continuing the high level of protection over the state’s environmental and economic interests provided by state and local government.

Superior Silica Sand Seeks Land for Transloading

Superior Silica Sand has submitted a letter of intent to purchase 40 acres of land in North Branch, Minn.’s ESSBY Business Park off 400th Street. At a North Branch City Council meeting, City Administrator Bridgitte Konrad said a purchase agreement with the business is likely months away, according to the ECM Post Review.

Wall Street Journal investigative reporter Russell Gold — who has been  recognized as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and is a recipient of the Gerald Loeb Award for his work – has released a new book entitled “The Boom: How Fracking Ignited the American Energy Revolution and Changed the World.”

Vista Sand Makes Progress on New Frac Sand Mine

According to the Pioneer Press, Glenwood City, Wis., has taken a step toward making a new frac sand mine a reality. The town’s city council voted 4-2 to approve a pre-annexation agreement with Texas-based Vista Sand, laying out a number of rules for the mine, which has been a controversial issue in the western Wisconsin city of about 1,200.
