Halliburton officially opened its Elmendorf South Texas Sand Plant with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. It is the largest Halliburton sand facility in the world and represents a $35.7 million investment.

Legal Action Taken to Stop Sand Plants

Residents in Wisconsin's Jackson County are suing to stop the development of two frac sand mining operations proposed by AllEnergy of Iowa and Terracore of Alberta, Canada. The cases are the first of their kind in the state, according to Wisconsin Public Radio.

Wisconsin Town Considering Nonmetallic Mining Ordinance

The Trenton, Wis., town board has imposed a moratorium on the expansion of nonmetallic mining operations in the town, according to the Pierce County Herald. An ordinance is now pending for adoption and stipulates the moratorium is to continue for no longer than one year when it’s adopted.

Superior Silica Acquires Reserves

Superior Silica Sands LLC (SSS), a subsidiary of Emerge Energy Services LP, announced that it has completed the acquisition of approximately 94 million tons of high-quality northern white silica sand reserves in Jackson County, Wis., from a subsidiary of Performance Technologies LLC (PTL), which is wholly owned by Seventy Seven Energy Inc.
