Construction Equipment Exports Decline

RFTR EQUIP 150March 2, 2016 – Exports of U.S.-made construction equipment ended 2015 with a 19-percent decline compared to the previous year for a total $13.9 billion shipped worldwide. All world regions experienced declines, led by Africa and South America, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), citing U.S. Department of Commerce data it uses in global market reports for members.

What is a Critical Habitat?

RFTR Habitat 150February 29, 2016 – The definition of a critical habitat will expand from an “area occupied by species at the time it is listed” to areas that a species may occupy in the future due to climate change or other factors. This is according to final rules from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services and National Marine Fisheries Service allow the agencies to expand the critical habitat definition beyond what is currently in the Endangered Species Act. “Members should be aware that these changes could cause an increase in a habitat’s areal extent, necessitating stringent mitigation measures, should a habitat designation include their property,” said Emily Coyner, National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA) environmental services director.

Training from KPI-JCI/Astec Mobile Screens

RFTR KPICJI 150Feb. 14, 2016 – KPI-JCI and Astec Mobile Screens are offering PRO Service Training in Jaw and Impactor Assembly. The course takes place Feb. 23-25. This course consists of 25 percent classroom and 75 percent hands-on assembly training. Classroom training on the jaw crusher includes wear component replacement, closed-side-setting adjustment, lubrication and troubleshooting issues that affect efficiency. Classroom training on the impactor includes wear component replacement and troubleshooting issues that affect efficiency, including feed size, rotor speed and blow bar metallurgy.

Metropolitan Update

RFTR METRO 150Feb. 4, 2016 – A ranking of the top U.S. metropolitan areas by the dollar amount of construction starts for commercial and multifamily building shows the New York City metropolitan area leading the nation in 2015, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. A total of $34.9 billion of commercial and multifamily projects in the New York City metropolitan area reached groundbreaking during 2015, up 66 percent from a year ago. For the nation as a whole, commercial and multifamily building in 2015 was reported at $162.7 billion, up 8 percent from a year ago.
