• Oil prices finished higher at press time, buoyed by talk of an extension for a deal to cut output, a bigger-than-expected drop in U.S. crude supplies, and concerns about production as a potential hurricane approaches the Gulf of Mexico. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, November West Texas Intermediate crude rose 81 cents, or 1.6 percent, to settle at $50.79 a barrel, following three session declines in a row. December Brent crud, the global oil benchmark, rose $1.20, or 2.2 percent, to end at $57 a barrel on London’s ICE Futures exchange.

Microsoft, Halliburton Collaborate on Digital Project

The relationship will combine the expertise of a global leader in cloud and digital transformation with a global leader in exploration and production (E&P) science, software and services.

Duren Appointed to U.S. Silica Board

U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. announced that it has appointed Diane K. Duren to its board of directors. The election of Duren increases the size of the company's board to six members. Duren will also serve as an independent member of the Audit and Compensation committees of the board.

Meteor Timber Project May Threaten an Endangered Species

A proposed Meteor Timber rail spur and sand-processing plant in Grant, Wis., may result in the "incidental taking" of a rare snake under a permit the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources proposes to issue for the project. Incidental take refers to the unintentional loss of individual endangered or threatened animals or plants that does not put the overall population of the species at risk.
