USGS Quantifies Utica Sale Deposit

The Utica Shale play contains about 38 trillion cu. ft. of undiscovered, technically recoverable natural gas (at the mean estimate) according to the first assessment of this continuous (unconventional) natural gas accumulation by the U. S. Geological Survey. The Utica Shale has a mean of 940 million barrels of unconventional oil resources and a mean of 208 million barrels of unconventional natural gas liquids.

Stikine Energy Seeks to Become Major Canadian Supplier

Vancouver, B.C., Canada-based Stikine Energy sees profit potential in the production of frac sand from silica sources in northeastern British Columbia. The company said frac sand represents a strategic opportunity in the market and a first for what is shaping up to be a massive gas play in region.

  • According to the Winona Daily News, Winona County, Wis., will re-publish Environmental Assessment Worksheet drafts for two proposed frac sand mines after staff discovered an error in the public comment process. In the drafts, the county said public comments on the reviews should be sent to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. County staff confirmed Tuesday that the county will accept the comments – the MPCA doesn’t handle them. The county plans to republish the review drafts with the correct information.
