Atlas Copco's ROC Line of Surface Drills

Article Tools

Atlas Copco's ROC line of surface drills for quarry applications now includes the SmartRig D7C, D9C and F9C. The top-of-the-line F9C is a tophammer model designed for heavy-duty drilling of blastholes in the 3½- to 5-inch-diameter range, while the two smaller models handle hole diameters of 2½ to 4½ inches and 3 to 4½ inches, respectively. SmartRig technology includes a computerized Rig Control System and other modules that enable users to boost productivity, safety, environmental sensitivity and machine performance/history capabilities. One of these modules is ROC Manager, a PC-based software package that can be used to design drill patterns, log deviation data with the help of a special probe, and analyze results when using Atlas Copco's Measure While Drilling feature. MWD logs a number of key drilling parameters at specified intervals. ROC Manager also can be used to consolidate data from multiple rigs at multiple sites.

RCS allows Atlas Copco to make the drill cab “dry,” housing only necessary control, display and comfort components but without hydraulic piping or gauges; this feature reduces noise, improves visibility and provides more usable cab space, according to the company. Atlas Copco
