A Reclamation Project

June 23, 2021 – Trap Rock Industries is scheduled to cease quarrying activities in 2023 at its 166-acre Moores Station Quarry property, located along the east side of Route 29 near Titusville, N.J. After its lease expires, Mercer County will assume responsibility for the abandoned quarry. The county said that this scenario creates a unique opportunity to transform this property into recreational open space. To assess and evaluate possible alternatives for the quarry’s conversion, the county assembled a team of highly qualified consultants in landscape architecture, planning, geology, engineering, ecology, and market analysis to explore a wide range of possible uses. In order to explore a wide range of options, three general options will be examined as a means to arrive at a final preferred use: 1.) A water-centric use; 2.) An extreme sports center, and 3.) An ecological restoration site. To find out more about the ongoing project, click here.
