An estimated 660 million metric tons (Mt) of total construction aggregates was produced and shipped for consumption in the United States in the second quarter of 2020, a decrease of 3% compared with that of the second quarter of 2019, according to U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Commodity Specialist Jason Willett.
The five leading states, in descending order of production for consumption, were Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and Ohio. Their combined total production for consumption in the second quarter of 2020 increased slightly to 195 Mt and represented 30% of the U.S. total.
Production for consumption in the first six months of 2020 decreased slightly compared with that of the same period of 2019.
An estimated 404 Mt of crushed stone was produced and shipped for consumption in the United States in the second quarter of 2020, a slight decrease compared with that of the second quarter of 2019.
The five leading states, in descending order of production for consumption, were Texas, Missouri, Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Their combined total production for consumption in the second quarter of 2020 was unchanged at 135 Mt and represented 33% of the U.S. total.
Production for consumption in the first six months of 2020 decreased slightly compared with that of the same period of 2019.
The estimated U.S. output of construction sand and gravel produced and shipped for consumption in the second quarter of 2020 was 255 Mt, a decrease of almost 5% compared with that of the second quarter of 2019.
The five leading states, in descending order of production for consumption, were California, Texas, Arizona, Minnesota and Michigan. Their combined total production for consumption in the second quarter of 2020 decreased by 4% to 94 Mt and represented 37% of the U.S. total.
Production for consumption in the first six months of 2020 decreased slightly compared with that of the same period of 2019.
Portland (including blended) cement consumption decreased slightly in the second quarter of 2020 compared with that of the second quarter of 2019. Consumption in the first six months of 2020 increased by 3% compared with that of the same period of 2019. This information was obtained from the USGS monthly survey of U.S. cement producers.
