Sand Pump Logs 480 Million Lbs.

Some equipment is built to go bad and some is built to last.

According to David Goddard, president of Westpower, “After 480 million lbs. of frac sand pumped down in the Permian, a pump was removed and returned to us. I asked the customer why it was sent back, and the response was ‘The pump had already lasted 10 times longer than what we were used to getting.’ They were scared to keep using it.”

The pump is a Westpower Silverback. It’s a full slurry design that fits the 12 x 14 Mission footprint, and pump curve, but it runs slower and lasts more than 10 times longer,” according to the company.

“This is a ‘fit for purpose’ frac blender discharge pump,” Goddard said. “As fracs started pumping more and more sand over the years, traditional designs weren’t working well, failing in relatively short time frames. Our pump is definitely not overkill, we are continuing to increase the reliability in order to keep fracs up and running.”
