Blumenauer Seeks Five-Cent Gas Tax Increase

RR052219 Blumenauer

May 22, 2019 – Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Trade, introduced a bill which would, according to Politico, raise the federal user fee on gasoline by five cents a year over five years. Blumenauer, a featured speaker at the Highway Materials Group’s recent Infrastructure Week press conference, introduced the legislation one day before President Trump’s second infrastructure meeting with Democratic congressional leaders. Back in April, the two sides previously met and agreed that a $2 trillion infrastructure package could help address the nation’s infrastructure. The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association said that progress is being made each and every week as Congress and President Trump’s administration continue infrastructure talks.
