Three Cemex USA facilities in Florida received recognition from the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) for outstanding community involvement, and FEC Quarry in Miami led the way, earning the NSSGA’s coveted 2018 Platinum Award for Excellence in Community Relations.
Cemex USA representatives including Kirk Light, Cemex USA Regional President – Florida Region, accepted the award during a ceremony at the NSSGA’s Annual Convention in Houston.
“The FEC Quarry and all of our operations in Florida are committed to developing long-lasting relationships in their communities while working in a responsible and sustainable fashion,” Light said. “This achievement demonstrates the FEC team’s tremendous ongoing efforts in South Florida to inform, educate and respond to the community in which they operate.”
NSSGA also recognized FEC Quarry with its Two Stars of Excellence Award, a distinction for earning both an Environmental Excellence Gold Award in 2017 and a Community Relations Gold Award this year. The organization presents the accolade to operations that receive two Gold Awards within a five-year period.
At its FEC Quarry, CEMEX actively hosts tours of the operation, routinely welcoming businesses and civic groups to the operation for lunches and panel discussions to learn about the facility. Local, state and congressional lawmakers are also frequent guests where employees educate them on the value of quarries.

Cemex’s 474 Sand Mine in Clermont, Fla., and Davenport Sand Mine in Davenport, Fla., were also recognized by the NSSGA, each earning 2018 Bronze Awards for Excellence in Community Relations. Just last year, both operations were on the award list from the NSSGA.
