Mellott Acquires Marion Machine Assets

Mellott Company announced it has acquired Marion Machine’s assets in North Carolina from Superior Machine Co. The company will now be known as Marion Machine LLC.

The rock-crusher repair company will continue to provide machining services as it has for the past 83 years. “Marion Machine LLC will operate independently, sharing its North Carolina campus with Mellott Company’s Southern Service Center, which will house parts, equipment, and service capabilities to better serve our customers in the Southeast,” said Rich Blake, president and CEO of Mellott Company.

The company was founded by Joe McNeill in 1934 and began as a machine shop, supporting the construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The initial focus was on repairing the steam shovels and carts that transported blasted rock and dirt for the new roadway. Eventually, the company transitioned into a repair service center dedicated to the special needs of the aggregates, mining and power industries.

The facility easily handles the biggest rock crushers, including the Nordberg 7-ft. Symons and the 5474 Metso Superior Gyratory. Marion Machine operates some of the largest CNC lathes and mills east of the Mississippi River.

The 10-acre facility, which houses the largest stress-relief oven in the region, operates 20 hours a day, 350 days per year. Marion’s skilled workers have rebuilt more than 2,000 rock crushers of just about all makes and models for customers around the world. Marion will continue to operate as an authorized repair facility for many well-known brands of crusher manufacturers.

“Marion’s people make the difference. With their dedication to customers and decades of experience, Marion Machine complements Mellott Company perfectly.  We always want to offer our customers the best service options and this acquisition will meet those needs. It provides huge potential for future growth,” Blake said.

“We are pleased to welcome Marion Machine’s valued team, led by director Joe McNeill, grandson of the founder,” said Paul Mellott Jr., chairman of Mellott Company. “Meeting the team and seeing first-hand their expertise brings me great pride in welcoming them to our family. We do not ‘sell to’ the industry…we are ‘in’ the industry.”

Marion Machine will be guided by the same core values as Mellott: Safety, Integrity, Commitment, Respect and Excellence.
