Werner Corp.-Chandler Aggregates Acquires Kennedy Hills Materials

Werner Corp.-Chandler Aggregates has acquired Kennedy Hills Materials, a 1,037-acre quarry in Riverside County, Calif., for an undisclosed amount. Werner Corp. is a third-generation, family-owned business that started out with a concrete batch plant in 1920.

The purchase of Kennedy Hills Materials goes along with the company’s 1996 decision to sell its batch plants and focus on aggregates production. The sale was brokered by Juve Pinedo at Lee and Associates – Investment Services Group.

The quarry is in an unincorporated area of Riverside County, Calif., known as “The Badlands,” which is approximately five miles east of the city of Moreno Valley. It has been mined for limestone, miscellaneous aggregate, and other fill material since the original surface mining permit was approved in 1987.

A 1999 revision to the permit gave the operation an additional 30-year extension. In a press release, Werner Corp. said the transaction could be the largest of its kind in California in more than 40 years.
