Vulcan Materials’ Gurley Quarry Wins Environmental Award

Vulcan Materials Co.’s Gurley Quarry has been named the winner of the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) Platinum Environmental Excellence Award, the highest environmental recognition presented by the organization.

Vulcan’s Gurley Quarry, which began operations in 2013, is located in Madison County, Ala., east of Huntsville.

“The competition for this recognition was intense, and we are honored to be recognized,” said Christy Alvord, president of Vulcan’s Southern & Gulf Coast Division. Alvord added, “Our Gurley Quarry is an outstanding example of the safety, health and environmental programs that we focus on every day at all of our operations. We are immensely proud of the work of our employees at Gurley.”

Joey West, district operations manager with oversight of the Gurley Quarry, praised the men and women who work at and support the site. “We take our role as environmental stewards very seriously, and we work very hard to be good neighbors wherever we operate.”

NSSGA created the Environmental Excellence Awards Program in 1992 to provide national recognition for aggregate producers that go above and beyond technical, environmental and regulatory requirements.
