NSSGA Names Wendt Scholarship Winner

Ian Reynolds, a rising senior at the Missouri University of Science & Technology, was selected as the recipient of the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association’s (NSSGA) 2016 Barry K. Wendt Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship, awarded by NSSGA’s Manufacturers & Services (M&S) Division, is presented annually to an outstanding college student who plans to pursue a career in the aggregates industry.

“Ian’s keen interest in our industry made him stand out in this year’s field of very well-qualified applicants,” said Rich Deister, chairman of the M&S Division. “The M&S Division is proud to award Ian the 2016 Barry K. Wendt Scholarship, and we’re excited to see what he will accomplish in our industry.”

Reynolds, who has worked in several quarries including a recent co-op with NSSGA member Mississippi Lime Co., is pursuing a degree in Mining Engineering with an emphasis on quarrying.

“Being a part of this operation has been a great learning experience and has given me a chance to work with many of the mine engineers and take on my first projects with a significant amount of responsibility,” Reynolds wrote in his application. He is the vice president of his school’s student chapter of NSSGA and has participated in the NSSGA/SME Student Design Competition. After graduating, Reynolds hopes to work in an underground aggregates operation.
