Komatsu Unveils Intelligent Machine Control Units

KOMATSU

Komatsu America Corp. introduced two new Intelligent Machine Control excavators – the PC360LCi-11 and PC490LCi-11 – and the D155AXi-8 Radio Controlled Dozer during a media event at the company’s customer center in Cartersville, Ga. Rock Products Associate Editor Josephine Smith participated in the event.

The new PC360LCi-11 hydraulic excavator is the first 3D semi-automatic excavator available in the popular 36-ton weight class. The excavator features an 8.85-liter, 257-hp Tier 4 Final SAA6D114E-6 engine. The 359-hp Tier 4 Final PC490LCi-11 hydraulic excavator is the largest 3D semi-automatic construction-sized excavator available today, noted the manufacturer.

Both excavators provide up to a 13 percent productivity improvement, thanks to increased hydraulic flow in Power Mode, and up to 7 percent more arm crowd force and bucket digging force, respectively, when Power Max function is engaged.

Intelligent Machine Control features a unique sensor package, including stroke sensing hydraulic cylinders, an IMU sensor and GNSS antennas.

Each machine utilizes the 3D design data loaded into its monitor to accurately display machine position relative to target grade. When the bucket reaches the target surface, automation kicks in to limit over excavation.

Other highlights of the excavators include auto grade assist, auto stop control, minimum distance control, facing angle compass and realistic 3D display. The Intelligent Machine Control monitor uses a large 12.1 screen for visibility and ease of use. The simple screen layout displays the necessary information in an easily understood fashion. A touchscreen icon interface, instead of a multi-step menu, simplifies operation.

The company also unveiled the 354-hp D155AXi-8 Radio Control dozer, Komatsu’s first radio controlled machine with Intelligent Machine Control technology. The dozer is unique among radio control dozers thanks to the enhanced “intelligence” that automates operation from heavy dozing to fine grading to efficiently doze material. The D155AXi-8 RC has the ability to sense and control blade load, optimize the start of the cut and minimize track slip.
