Di-Corp. Hopes to Build New Plant

A well-established Alberta, Canada, company is hoping to set up a plant in Yellowhead County, just west of Peers. Di-Corp is hoping build a frac sand, oil and gas facility beside the CN Rail mainline.

The plant and rail spur would take up 135 acres and would require a land change designation from rural district to rural industrial district. Hubert St. Jean, director of construction and land development for Di-Corp made a presentation to county council during the April 14 meeting.

Founded in 1957 by Robert LePoole, Di-Corp is a diversified company, which is also active in potash and nickel. It is a leading distributor of frac sand, drilling fluids, and hardware serving the energy, mining and drilling industries. The company employs 150 employees in facilities across Canada and the U.S.

St. Jean said Di-Corp conducted an extended search of the area from Peers to Hinton and decided that the west of Peers location would be the best for its needs due to a variety of factors including close proximity to the CN mainline, good truck access, close proximity to a provincial class highway, superior access to its target market, suitable shape for a unit train track, site topography, elevation and soil conditions suitable for construction and its proximity to residents and other industrial developments.
