THE AGGREGATES INDUSTRY’S BIG SHOW OF THE YEAR PUTS THE ‘MORE’ IN BALTIMORE.
By Mark S. Kuhar
AGG1 is right around the corner. The AGG1 Academy & Expo is geared to the decision-makers and buyers from the companies that produce the vast majority of crushed stone, sand and gravel in the marketplace, including company owners, senior managers, plant managers, superintendents, regional managers, engineers, technical professionals and safety managers.
AGG1, in conjunction with World of Asphalt, will be held March 17-19 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore. More than 91 percent of attendees at the last edition of the co-located AGG1 and World of Asphalt said the event was valuable to their business operations.
In 2015, World of Asphalt and AGG1 will again be the place for aggregates, asphalt, pavement maintenance and traffic safety professionals to network and discuss industry trends, and get up to speed on the latest product innovations and industry best practices to stay competitive in the marketplace.
Nearly 30 industry-related associations and groups are official supporting organizations of World of Asphalt and/or AGG1, with representation from state, national, provincial and international groups.
Attendees can make the most efficient use of their valuable time onsite by using the shows’ interactive planning tools to organize their itinerary and create a personalized agenda ahead of time.
With the World of Asphalt and AGG1 “my show planner” and exhibitor directory, attendees can search the shows for exhibitors by company name, type of product or market area, booth number, and location on the show floor. Attendees can also schedule appointments as well as must-attend education sessions and networking events, and update their itinerary as needed pre-show and onsite.
The online New Products and Technologies exhibitor preview helps attendees quickly find new and innovative products and services that will be on display; special icons in the show directory will help attendees easily find program participants onsite.
Attendees can book hotel rooms online, make travel arrangements, and check the many amenities and attractions of Baltimore, including the scenic Inner Harbor location of the convention center.
International visitors will find information about the U.S. visa application process and can access the shows’ U.S. visa assistance and invitation letter program. Information is available in Spanish and Portuguese, as well as English.
An onsite International Trade Center, with DOC and show staff, will help connect show exhibitors with international visitors.
Baltimore is conveniently located just a 1-hour transit ride away from Washington, D.C., as well as historic Philadelphia. New York City is just a two-hour train ride away.
Education
World of Asphalt and AGG1 2015’s in-depth education programming will provide industry professionals with practical, “real-world” knowledge they can use in their business operations and on the jobsite.
The industry-focused education complements the shows’ exhibits of the newest equipment, products and technologies for the aggregates, asphalt, pavement maintenance and traffic safety sectors.
Attendees can take advantage of more than 100 expert-led education sessions on a wider variety of topics than ever before. For maximum flexibility, the signature People, Plants and Paving Training Program and AGG1 Academy offer several ticket options, with no pre-selection of specific sessions required.
The People, Plants and Paving Training Program, from National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA), covers five program tracks: people, plants, paving, safety, and pavement preservation. Designed for paving contractors of all sizes, the program tackles the latest industry innovations in safety, recycling, maintenance and plant production. Sessions also cover management and leadership skills crucial for successful business operations.
The AGG1 Academy, from National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA), is the one place to go to learn about virtually every aspect of the aggregates industry. Five topic tracks are offered: operations & production; environment, safety & health; business management; leadership; and automation, technology and software. Sessions range from 101-level classes to higher-level sessions.
The ARTBA Work Zone Safety Conference, organized by American Road and Transportation Builders Association, is focused on ensuring safer work zones and preventing run-overs, backovers and vehicular intrusions.
Additional learning options attendees can take advantage of being held in conjunction with the shows include:
- ACRI Workshop: NSSGA’s Alternative Case Resolution Initiative (ACRI) Workshop can help operators successfully fight MSHA citations and civil penalties.
- Basic Supervisory Training: This program from NSSGA helps aggregate plant managers, plant supervisors and management personnel build the skills necessary to excel as supervisors.
- Beyond Compliance: Achieving EH&S Excellence: From NAPA, this conference is tailored exclusively to issues of environment, health and safety (EH&S) at asphalt plants and paving sites.
- Noise & Dust Workshop: This workshop provides a unique opportunity to learn how to conduct noise and dust exposure monitoring, record and interpret results, and develop plans to reduce exposures below MSHA permissible limits.
- Strategic Sales Training: This new program from NSSGA helps aggregates sales people develop essential selling skills through a combination of discussions, hands-on exercises and role plays.
Plus, there will be a tour of the Bluegrass Materials’ Texas Quarry in Cockeysville, Md., which has been in operation for more than 150 years. The facility provided some of the building blocks for the Washington Monument.
The shows are industry-owned and operated to ensure they meet industry needs. AGG1 is owned by NSSGA. World of Asphalt is owned by NAPA, NSSGA and Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). AEM produces both shows.
