Video Emphasizes Role of Aggregates

Oct. 16, 2014 – “The success of the aggregates industry and the success of our nation are undeniably linked,” said Mike Johnson, president and CEO of the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA), to its board of directors when he previewed the association’s effort to promote the industry via an informational video. The three-minute spot, entitled “If the Aggregates Industry is Doing Well, America is Doing Well,” highlights an essential truth, according to Johnson.

“Nothing substantial is built in this country that doesn’t start from a rock,” he said.

The video outlines the important role that stone, sand and gravel play in countless industries, including construction, transportation, agriculture and manufacturing. In simple graphics, it portrays the significant economic impact that 10,000 aggregates operations have on the nation and how the future of America is tied to the success of the industry and its 100,000 employees.

The three-minute piece is part of NSSGA’s three-year strategic plan to build a stronger industry and a more effective association. As part of that effort, NSSGA sponsored a live streaming webcam, embedded at the top of the Washington Monument, of the largest portrait made of gravel, sand and soil commissioned by the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery on the National Mall. “Sadly, aggregates are taken for granted, but America depends on our products for shelter, transportation and our standard of living. The sand, gravel and soil portrait and this video remind the public that aggregates are literally the foundation of the nation,” Johnson added.
