  • A new frac sand mine in southeastern Barron County, Wis., will make relatively quick work of a sand deposit estimated at about 6 million tons, according to the Barron News-Shield. Information in the reclamation plan identifies the owners of the 80-acre property as David and Louise Driver of Chetek. The operator is Chieftain Sand & Proppant-Barron of New Auburn.
  • Consulting firm PacWest said that it expects frac sand prices to increase 12 percent this year. Prices had been declining after reaching record high levels two years ago. PacWest has been on the forefront of monitoring frac sand pricing.
  • At the recent ConExpo-Con/Agg show in Las Vegas, manufacturers of frac sand equipment surveyed by Frac Sand Insider admitted 2013 was a bit of a down year, but are optimistic for 2014 based on continuing activity in the Bakken shale play and increased activity in Texas. Several manufacturers introduced new products specific to the frac sand market. Look for those products to be profiled in future editions of Frac Sand Insider.
