ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014, taking place March 4-8 in Las Vegas, will represent an immense unveiling of all the newest equipment, technology and product breakthroughs for the construction and aggregates industries. From earthshaking big iron to groundbreaking innovations, it’s all assembled in one place to help you work smarter.

ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014 already covers a record-breaking 2.3 million net sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor exhibits, and IFPE 2014 has achieved record status with 165,000 net sq. ft. of exhibit space.

Show management stresses that quality, not size, is the goal. A strategic alignment with needs of the industry has led to programs and events geared toward helping attendees and exhibitors achieve the most value out of their time at the shows.

“Attendees will find the newest products and technologies and technical experts ready to discuss product features and applications. In the space of a few days, in one place, visitors can examine and compare the best of what our industries have to offer,” stated Megan Tanel, ConExpo-Con/Agg show director and AEM vice president exhibitions and events.

“Attendees will also find the focused industry education, with the latest techniques and information, they need to run their businesses most efficiently. The opportunity to share experiences and ideas with industry peers adds another dimension to the show experience,” stated Melissa Magestro, IFPE show director and AEM senior director exhibitions.

ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014 will feature:

  • 2,400 exhibitors showcasing new products and technologies for every major construction industry including asphalt, aggregates, concrete, earthmoving, lifting, mining, utilities and more.
  • More than 130,000 attendees that range from contractors, to dealers and distributors, to service providers, engineers, producers, municipalities and more.
  • A comprehensive education program during the five-day exposition with sessions emphasizing industry issues and trends, management and applied technology.

What’s New for 2014?

  • New navigation programs. Getting around the show will be much simpler with these new services:
    • Superior shuttle service.
    • Enhanced mobile navigation app.
    • Knowledgeable onsite guides to help answer any questions.
    • New internal routes get you from one product area to another much faster.
  • New Platinum Lot – Located directly across from South Hall – 387,000 sq. ft. of equipment for aggregate processing, asphalt paving, drilling and more.
  • New Demolition and Recycling Pavilion – Sponsored by the Construction Materials Recycling Association, and C&D World magazine, this pavilion will promote safe and economically feasible recycling of recoverable construction and demolition materials.
  • New education packages – More flexibility and no wasted tickets.

Young Leaders Event
ConExpo-Con/Agg show will host the inaugural ConExpo-Con/Agg Young Leaders Event, which will bring together up-and-coming industry leaders to share ideas and build relationships for the future. The event features a luncheon with keynote speaker.

Contractors, producers, fleet managers, distributors and others involved in the construction industries who are under 40 years old are encouraged to participate; it’s also an ideal opportunity for companies to spotlight their emerging leaders.

The ConExpo-Con/Agg Young Leaders Event, set for Wednesday, March 5, 2014, provides an opportunity for these future leaders to take a quiet break from the hectic show floor to engage with each other, to learn from seasoned veterans and to expand their industry networks.

“ConExpo-Con/Agg is the perfect place to recognize the excellence of our next generation; it’s where the industry gathers and where the next generation of new technologies is on display,” said Tanel.

The event has widespread industry association support and is sponsored by Construction Equipment magazine’s “Under 40 in Construction Equipment Awards.”

“Our young leaders can also participate in focused education while at the show as well as find the equipment and products that will help them achieve continued success,” Tanel said.

Construction Contractors Featured at Show
ConExpo-Con/Agg wants to publicly show appreciation to the construction contractors who continue in this tough economy to build our quality of life.

The construction industry suffered more than most other economic sectors in the Great Recession and the recovery is still struggling as demonstrated by these figures:

  • Employment fell further and longer in construction (residential plus nonresidential) than in any other sector. Employment declined for nearly five years, by 1.9 million or 25 percent from 7.7 million in April 2006, seasonally adjusted, to 5.4 million in January 2011. By August 2013, the industry had regained fewer than 400,000 jobs.
  • Construction spending totaled $857 billion in 2012, a 9 percent increase from 2011 but 27 percent below the peak year of 2006. Public construction spending totaled $279 billion (down 3 percent from 2011); private nonresidential spending, $298 billion (up 16 percent from 2011); and private residential, $280 billion (up 16 percent from 2011).

Nevertheless, the industry perseveres and continues to build our quality of life. ConExpo-Con/Agg is recognizing the accomplishments of the construction industry, through the Quality of Life Campaign. For example:

  • The New Mississippi River Bridge Is a Boon to the Region.
  • Construction Across a Highway in North Houston? No Problem.
  • As Subway Extension Construction Project Reduces Congestion, Toronto Commuters Will Benefit.
  • Hunting, Fishing, and Commuting: Kentucky’s Eggner’s Ferry Bridge Repair Keeps People Moving in the Western Lakes Region.
  • Keeping New Philadelphia, Ohio Residents Safe and Warm.

The participating contractors – up to 50 – will be publicly honored at a recognition event in Las Vegas, March 6, 2014. There is still an opportunity for contractors to participate. Each contractor and a guest will receive complimentary show admission plus airline tickets to Las Vegas and two nights in a hotel room.

The ConExpo-Con/Agg Quality of Life Campaign is raising greater awareness of the accomplishments of the construction industry among all those who benefit from its work: vital improvements such as well-maintained and safe roads and bridges, upgraded and fully functioning clean-water and sewer capabilities, and improved facilities for recreation, health, transit and other services.

Campaign-generated stories explain the positive benefits of construction projects of all sizes and descriptions across the United States, and ConExpo-Con/Agg invites contractors and other industry professionals to submit projects demonstrating how their companies and their projects contribute to our quality of life

Contractors whose projects fit the program will not only have the opportunity to garner publicity for their work; they will be recognized at the show.

When the campaign was first announced, Glen Tellock, the ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014 chair and chairman and CEO of The Manitowoc Co., said, “ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014, as the global gathering place in North America every three years for the construction and construction materials industries, provides an ideal context for the culminating recognition event that will focus on the people of the construction industry and their significant contributions to our modern quality of life.”

Case, ConExpo/ConAggEducation and Exhibit Pavilions
On the ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014 show floor, a new Demolition & Recycling exhibit pavilion, sponsored by the Construction & Demolition Recycling Association (C&DRA), will showcase exhibits and products specific to C&D recyclers and demolition contractors.

IFPE 2014 features exhibit pavilions from PTDA, the Power Transmission Distributors Association, and for sensors manufacturers and product suppliers.
International exhibit pavilions at both shows reinforce the global scope of the events and offer attendees access to a wider range of companies and product options. To date, the shows have eight official country pavilions: IFPE with China, Italy and Taiwan; ConExpo-Con/Agg with China, Germany, Ireland, Korea and United Kingdom.

ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014 features a comprehensive Education Program with more than 110 sessions over 10 subject-matter tracks: aggregates, asphalt, business management best practices, concrete, cranes & rigging, earthmoving & site development, equipment management & maintenance, recycling & preservation, safety & regulations, and workforce development.

New for 2014: ConExpo-Con/Agg education sessions will be offered at varying times to fit attendee schedules, and new ticket packages provide flexibility for more cost savings. IFPE 2014 features its prestigious Technical Conference, the leading research resource for the design engineering community, with IFPE college-level courses also offered for hands-on technical knowledge on fluid power and hydraulics. New for 2014 is a Fluid Power Seminar Series, focused on industry trends and issues affecting the future of fluid power, with real-world solutions for current and future design applications, and presented by Hydraulics & Pneumatics.

Getting Around at the Shows
It will be easier than ever to get around at the shows, so attendees spend less time searching and more time connecting with the companies and products they want to see.

A new show footprint consolidates outdoor exhibit space into three large areas (a new Platinum lot joins Gold and Silver) to create better attendee flow between outdoor and indoor (including IFPE) exhibits.
Way-finding upgrades include an enhanced internal shuttle system, better-defined product concentration areas, and knowledgeable onsite guides to answer questions and help attendees navigate the show floor.

“The goal, as with all our planning, is to create the most ROI for attendees and exhibitors, and these moves will definitely make a positive difference for 2014,” Tanel noted.

International Visitors
ConExpo-Con/Agg and IFPE 2014 are among a select group invited to participate in the U.S. Department of Commerce International Buyer Program, which assists with bringing international visitors to the shows. Show management encourages all international participants who need visas to initiate the application process well in advance of the show dates.

For the convenience of international show visitors onsite, a comprehensive International Trade Center will provide assistance. Services include multi-lingual interpreters, a message center, phone/fax/e-mail access and private meeting rooms.
