CalCIMA Honors Industry Members

The California Construction & Industrial Materials Association (CalCIMA) announced awards for members who made outstanding contributions during 2013.

“The volunteer efforts of the companies and individuals that make up an association are critical to its success,” said Gary W. Hambly, president and CEO of CalCIMA. “We have been fortunate this past year to have several members make exceptional contributions to benefit the activities of CalCIMA.”

“It is very gratifying to have so many outstanding professionals supporting CalCIMA,” said Tom Powell, with Cemex and chairman of CalCIMA. “The actions of each of this year’s recipients have made a marked improvement for the association and the industry,” said Powell.

President’s Award – Jim Good, retired and previously with the law firm Gresham Savage Nolan & Tilden. Good served CalCIMA as counsel since its inception in 2007. He has been a long-time legal advisor to mining companies in California.

Benjamin J. Licari Distinguished Member Award – Michael Toland, president of Spragues’ Ready Mix. Toland has been a leader in promoting the association and membership with his colleagues.

Spirit of the Industry Award – Toby Goyette, environmental manager with Syar Industries Inc. and John Lane, EH&S project manager with Teichert Materials. Goyette was recognized for his leadership of an industry work group to respond to a draft industrial storm water order from the State Water Board. Lane was recognized for his leadership in developing a new air permit for industry to use portable equipment.

Associate of the Year Award – Katharine Wagner, partner with Downey Brand LLP. Wagner was recognized for her legal input of industrial storm water proposals and coordination with other interest groups.

Special Recognition Award – John Kolski, community and government relations manager for Stevens Creek Quarry Inc. Kolski was recognized for outstanding efforts to support legislative initiatives.        

The awards were presented Nov. 10-13, at the 2013 CalCIMA Education Conference in Napa, Calif.
